MPA Weekly Update (October 16-29)

We are in the midst of IUEs, which means we are about a quarter of the way through the school year! We hope everyone, parents and students alike, are holding up and doing well!

Important Upcoming Dates:
Wednesday, October 25 is our next MPA meeting. It begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Library. As usual, your CORE 4 and Ms. Macon will be on hand to give you all the latest news and to answer questions. Our guest speaker will be Cindy Holsey, the Young Adult Librarian from the Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL) Northridge Branch. Cindy will discuss how LAPL can help students succeed in school and get ready for college, including online tutoringhow to use the library for research projects, and college test prep offered by the library. She’ll also discuss all the great resources for adults such as eBooks/eAudiobooks and online classes for career and personal development. And the best part: all of LAPL’s resources are absolutely free!  Refreshments will be served.

Dia De Los Muertos, the Ninth Grade Event celebrating Mexican Culture, History, and Geography, takes place in the MPA on November 2.The event starts with set up at 7:30am, thru lunch, cleanup and then entertainment – ending around 1:30. Volunteers are needed to begin at various times, and all volunteers are welcome to stay as long as they like. If you would like to volunteer to help at this event, please email Jill Harris at

The annual Northern California College Trip will be from November 19-21st. We will visit UCSB, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo or UC Santa Cruz (weather-permitting), UC Berkeley, Sonoma State, San Francisco University, and Stanford. The cost of the trip is $350 and is due along with the Registration and Liability Release forms to the Magnet Office no later than October 27th. Make checks payable to “Cleveland High School Booster Club” and denote in the memo line the student’s name and “College Trip.” Click the links to download the Northern California Trip Flyer and the Registration and Liability forms. This is a trip for seniors and juniors ONLY, and will be on a first-come, first-served basis, until we reach 50 students.  After we reach 50 students, there will be a wait-list. To secure your spot, you must have all forms and your check turned in, beginningTuesday, October 17th.

A Few More Reminders:
Tuesdays, October 17 & 31 are early dismissal days.

Cleveland’s Homecoming Football Game and Dance will be on Friday andSaturday, October 20 & 21, both starting at 7:00 p.m.

There is NO SCHOOL on Friday, November 10.

Our ASK Campaign:
Many parents are already showing an interest in giving to our ASK Campaign. Our ASK letters will be arriving at your homes soon. If you just can’t wait to give, you can donate online by clicking I WANT TO GIVE
