Weekly Announcements (September 2-5):
Quote of the Week: “Ah, September! You are the doorway to the season that awakens my soul…but I must confess that I love you only because you are a prelude to my beloved October.” ~ Peggy Toney Horton
Coordinator’s Message: I hope you all enjoyed your four day weekend! One of the days we celebrated this weekend– Labor Day– has history worth remembering. It was born of the struggle of workers to dignify their labor by establishing living wages, safe working conditions, the right to voice their discontent, etc. Many workers died for these rights, and in 1894, following the Pullman Strike, the United States Congress unanimously voted to approve legislation that made Labor Day a national holiday; in fact, it was President Grover Cleveland (the connections are everywhere!) that signed the bill into law. Never take for granted the struggles of our foremothers and forefathers and continue their legacy by working hard, being responsible, and using our voices to ensure dignified treatment for all. Happy Labor Day!

Practice, Practice, Practice: Our 2013-2014 College Admissions Initiative is in full force and kicks off with the PSAT on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at 8:00 a.m. Because we are a college preparatory program, we highly recommend all freshmen take the exam, and we require all juniors to take the exam as part of the CORE 11 curriculum. All sophomores take the exam free of charge through the LAUSD. The cost for freshmen and juniors is $15.00, and you can sign-up in the Magnet Office or Student Store during Nutrition and Lunch beginning September 3rd. There are also fee waivers available for students in the Free and Reduced Lunch program. If you think you qualify, please see Ms. Drell in the College Office.
