Coordinator's Corner Weekly Announcements

Weekly Announcements (August 18-21):

Quote of the Week: “The beginning is the most important part of the work.” ~Plato, The Republic

Coordinator’s Message: Welcome back, Corebabies!  I hope your summer was one of fun, rest, and reflection, and that you are ready to begin anew this year. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding this week our hard working counselors ensure you are all properly placed and that classes are balanced.  When you see them, please thank Ms. Howe and Ms. Morales for their tireless efforts these last few weeks.

I am very excited for this year!  Our teaching staff is complete, and there are only a few changes to report.  Mr. Basinger will be rejoining the 10th grade team teaching Art History. Ms. Prato will be rejoining the 12th grade team teaching Digital Humanities.  Ms. Peroff will be joining the 12th grade team as well, teaching a period of AP English Literature.

Each grade level has been working hard all summer to provide you with an exciting and fulfilling curriculum.  Now you must do your part to develop the habits for success. There are many theories about what those habits are, but my suggestions include staying organized, establishing peer groups that encourage you to be your BEST self, being proactive, asking for help when you need it, enjoying the learning process, and making connections.  Your teachers, counselors, and I are here to assist you, so utilize the resources available, and have your best year yet!

Bigger and Better!:  The Magnet Office has moved!  We are now in E8.  Check us out and don’t hesitate to see a copymom or Ms. Macon if you need anything.

CORE Buddy Social:  If you signed up to be a CORE Buddy to a budding Corebaby (see what I did there  🙂 ), come to the E10 courtyard at lunch on the first day of school to meet your freshman buddy, eat lunch on the lawn outside of E10, and receive a cool treat!

Lunch Applications:  In order to attend CORE field trips, you MUST complete a Title I lunch application.  Even if you don’t think you will qualify or don’t want to receive tickets, you still must complete an application.  We suggest completing it online, if you haven’t already.  Click HERE for instructions.  Print your confirmation form and bring it to the Magnet Office.

Student ID Pictures:  Student ID pictures will be taken on Monday, August 24th and Tuesday, August 25th.  You can purchase a picture package.  You will receive details from your Per. 2 teacher or you can go to the Magnet Office to pick up the flyer.

Early Dismissal Tuesday:  The next Early Dismissal Tuesday will be Tuesday, August 25th at 1:34 p.m. Please plan accordingly.

Agendas and COREture:  We have CORE agendas available in the Magnet Office for $5.00. Also, don’t forget to get your COREture gear– T-shirts, sweatpants, sweatshirts at great prices! All proceeds go to the program!

Book Bundles:  There are still Book Bundles available.  Having your own copy of the books we are using  is an invaluable tool and all proceeds go back to the program. Come to the Magnet Office for an order form.

No School: Remember that Friday, September 4th and Monday, September 7th, there is no school in observance of Admissions Day and Labor Day.

Magnet Parents Association:  SPREAD THE WORD…The first MPA meeting of the year is Wednesday, August 26th at 7:00 p.m. in Cleveland’s Library. Please encourage your parents to stay “in the loop” and attend this very important meeting.  All parents welcome!

COREdinators:  Do you have ideas about how to make CORE even better?  Are you a freshman looking for ways to be active in your school community?  Then join COREdinators, Fridays at lunch in E10! Our first gathering of the year will be this Friday, August 21st. Remember to wear your CORE t-shirt for a chance to win a gift card to one of many fabulous establishments!

Corebaby Email: Be sure to check your Corebaby email address EVERYDAY for important updates!  If you use another email address as your primary email address, you can forward your Corebaby emails to that address so that you don’t miss anything! See Mr. Saavedra if you have questions.

Forgot Your Corebaby Email Password?:  You can retrieve it, but it will cost you a dollar.  Go to Mr. Saavedra in E7 for information, but don’t go empty handed.

Cavalier News: Have you seen Cleveland’s new website?  Go to to check it and get important schoolwide info!

Important College News for All:  Have you visited the Career and College Office website?  It is an incredibly useful resource as you begin the college admissions journey in the ninth grade.  Be sure to bookmark the calendar as there are important dates to note. Go to to check it out.

Clean Up After Yourselves:  Please do your part to keep your learning environment and other areas on campus clean.  Pick up your trash, recycle where possible, and remind your friends to do the same! I do not want see your trash left on the floors for someone else to clean up. Thank you!
