Mr. A’s fortuitous journey to becoming an educator began in the Philippines where as a boy he wanted to become a lawyer while his parents wanted him to be a doctor. He received a De La Salle Catholic education from elementary through high school then enrolled in the country’s top university, the University of the Philippines. The many contrasts within family life and academic career all led to the completion of a degree in BS Education Major in Special Education, Mathematics, and Physics.
After getting married he moved to California in 2004 and went on to earn his teaching credentials in Moderate to Severe Disabilities and a Mild to Moderate Credential with a focus on Curriculum and Instruction from UCLA. Throughout his teaching career, Mr. A has been involved in various roles such as Special Education Coordinator and Behavior Intervention Case Manager. He also held teaching positions in an Alternative Track-Community Based Instruction SDC, Autism Spectrum Disorder-Math/Science/Social Skills SDC, and for the last decade as a Math Specialist Master Teacher for at-risk high school students.
Mr. A is happily married to his wife of 21 years and they have 3 teenage sons together. The family lives and works in the West Valley and all 3 boys are former/current students of the LAUSD.
